What a week. Lots of heavy favorites. This slate is full of landmines. Sooner or later the Buffs have to show some signs of life, but favored over KC? Nuh-uh. Chiefs win. Tampa hits the road. One-dimensional football won't do against a good defense. Redskins win. Angry Patsies face off against Miami, enjoy warm weather, send postcards to Indy promising a rematch. Patriots win. I think I saw a wire report saying that San Francisco was trying out Steve DeBerg this week. The Bears countered by trying out Sid Luckman. Bears win. G-Men, rolling merrily along, ought to fear Minnesota. They didn't look all that hot last week. Giants win (fingers crossed). Home, favored, with the opposing Cardinals in town, but you know what? Detroit is terrible. That whole division is terrible. If they stick with McCown they ought to be fine. (But I always get burned trusting Dennis Green...) Cardinals win. (gulp) And you know what, the heck with this. If they don't win this week, they're cooked for the playoffs, and that really tends to motivate some teams. Ravens in an upset. Colts win. Big. Huge. Let's move on. Carolina is rolling and New York had its shot last week, thanks to Mary Schottenheimer. (Not a typo.) Didn't get there. I love how they're not quitting on Herm, but... Panthers win. Mike Shanahan is something like 242-3 against the Raiders since they canned him. Broncos win. Seattle is living and dying by the last-minute comeback. Whenever they play Arizona or St. Louis I screw this up; I almost wish I could leave this blank and just take the loss - it's too painful. Seahawks win. You don't know how badly I want to put Green Bay in here. They are losing tons of tough games. You know they're going to get a couple of wins along the way. This week, with the Falcons coming off the big win, they could catch them. Really and truly I believe it. But... Falcons win. Too many hurt Packers to keep the defense honest. Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh - Broncos East. Anyone can run the ball there! Jerome? Duce? Blair Thomas? (Well, OK. NOT Blair Thomas.) Steelers win. The Eagles careen back to the Linc for a fun time against hated Big D. Well, OK. Not so much of a fun time. Donovan won't win MVP, but there ought to be a Stud Deluxe award or something, considering what he's dealt with and how well he's dealt. They may have to wheel him over to the podium to get the trophy, though. Cowboys win. -Mike
